The Company has 50 years’ experience in technical leadership, manufacturing expertise and prime contract management skills to deliver C4I communications solutions, Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) capability, avionics systems and deployable infrastructure.
General Dynamics UK currently provides the tactical communication system used by the UK Armed Forces, known as Bowman. In 2017, the Company was awarded a £330 million contract to design and develop the next-generation tactical communication and information system, which will be used to plan, deploy, manage and monitor communications and information for the Army. The Company designed and developed AJAX, the future of Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV), delivering 589 platforms for the British Army. In addition, the Company provides a range of avionic systems that are used on different types of military aircraft around the world.

o 550 of these are currently working on vehicle programmes, with number set to rise to 700 by the end of 2018
o We have 275 highly-skilled employees in Hastings, East Sussex
o The Company has established graduate and apprenticeship programmes, with intake increasing each year
o Acquired by General Dynamics in 2015. The site was a disused forklift truck factory. Following significant investment by General Dynamics UK, the site is now a specialist engineering hub for armoured vehicles.
o In addition to the 250 jobs created at the Merthyr Tydfil facility, the AJAX build programme is sustaining 300 jobs at General Dynamics UK in nearby Oakdale, and a further 3,600 jobs at more than 230 companies across the UK supply chain.
o The new industrial capability opens up exciting new possibilities for General Dynamics in the UK in the years ahead. For example, we can deliver PIRANHA 5 vehicles quickly to the British Army to meet the planned Initial Operating Capability for the MIV programme from an existing production line, before transferring production to Merthyr Tydfil, creating further jobs at our facility and additional significant employment right across our extensive UK supply chain.
