General Dynamics will display its capabilities as a leading provider and integrator of Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), together with systems for the Armed Forces and support personnel, at the Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) event at Millbrook on 25-26 June 2008.
“With allied soldiers deployed for long-term operations in extreme conditions, it is vitally important to protect them from both hostile action and the harsh environment of today’s theatres,” said Dr Sandy Wilson, President and Managing Director of General Dynamics UK. “We will be demonstrating a range of General Dynamics capabilities, including advanced integration of communications technology, our global leadership in armoured fighting vehicles and the very latest infrastructure, such as communications, living and support systems, for operational bases.”
Platform Integration - General Dynamics UK will demonstrate its unique domestic expertise in the integration and digitization of AFVs, including its platform services centre of excellence, for the delivery of complex integrated communications and electronic systems for today's sophisticated operational vehicles. As the Bowman prime contractor, General Dynamics UK has converted more than 12,000 of the UK Armed Forces’ vehicles, including the full range of the current Army AFV fleet and Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR) vehicles.

Armoured Vehicles – General Dynamics vehicles on display will show a range of weight classes from eight tons to 28 tons.
- The latest 8x8 PIRANHA vehicle displaying the key technologies for PIRANHA V, as well as a 30mm Rheinmetall turret;
- The DURO IIIP, a heavily protected version of the DURO vehicle which is already in service with the British Army and is a contender for the Operational Utility Vehicle System (OUVS) requirement;
- The EAGLE IV, a highly capable patrol vehicle which shares common driveline elements with the DURO.
Each vehicle provides outstanding protected mobility for its class. In all 13,500 vehicles have been produced, now in service with 29 different countries.
Key battlefield infrastructure – General Dynamics UK will display advanced containers and technology, providing a range of transportable, agile facilities for deployed troops on operations in extreme and harsh conditions:
- Persistent surveillance infrastructure, an entirely new concept in ISTAR capability that provides enduring surveillance and support for force protection. A 20 foot ISO standard size shelter with integral EMC Land Class A generator, environmental conditioning to meet +58C to -26C, and the power and communications to support two operators, this shelter stores, in sections, a 21M lattice tower that supports a range of sensors.
- A container-based shower and sanitation system for up to 150 personnel arriving first in theatre. The facility has treatment capability for waste products, is powered by its own generator, has a hot water system, and can be delivered by land or helicopter.
- Headquarters and technical accommodation for operations. A 20 foot ISO container that can be delivered flat-packed and erected on site, complete with pre-installed windows, doors, power distribution, lighting and air-conditioning. Because it is flat-packed, it enables five shelters to be built from just one 20x8x8 ISO container load.
