UK MoD picks PIRANHA for Trials of Truth

General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has welcomed its selection as one of the three contenders for the UK’s Future Rapid Effects System (FRES) Utility Vehicle. Minister for Defence Equipment and Support, Lord Drayson, today (07 June, 2007) named the General Dynamics PIRANHA vehicle as one of three down-selected platforms for this year’s “Trials of Truth.” This competition will inform selection of the Utility Vehicle Design which will provide the basis of the British Army’s next generation of medium weight armoured fighting vehicles.

General Dynamics UK is a leading prime systems integrator with a unique UK capability in digitising armoured vehicles for the British Army. The General Dynamics team will meet the British Army’s FRES requirements by offering the next generation of the well proven PIRANHA series, known as PIRANHA V. The Trials of Truth candidate vehicle, PIRANHA EVOLUTION, will demonstrate the potential of PIRANHA to satisfy the FRES threshold requirements, whilst having adequate stretch potential to meet emerging requirements.

Dr. Sandy Wilson, President and Managing Director of General Dynamics UK, said: “We are pleased to be recognised as a leading contender for the FRES Utility Vehicle Design and we look forward confidently to demonstrating PIRANHA EVOLUTION’s capabilities and potential during the Trials of Truth. We offer a unique mix of proven delivery capability and intellectual property for the UK together with the power to harness world-leading technology for the UK Armed Forces. PIRANHA V will give early capability for FRES, building on a track record of reliability, with growth potential to develop further as operational capability needs demand.”
